Ruach: spirit, Breath, wind

Genesis 1:2 - Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit (Ruach) of God was hovering over the waters.

Job 12:10 - In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath (Ruach) of all mankind.

Exodus 10:13 - So Moses stretched out his staff over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind (Ruach) blow across the land all that day and all that night.

Spirit. Breath. Wind.

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word is "Ruach" and in the New Testament, the Greek word is "pneuma," but they hold the same meaning. Ruach can refer to God's Spirit, the human spirit, literal or figurative wind, or the breath of life.

Our favorite mention of Ruach is found in the book of Job:

Job 33:4 - The Spirit (Ruach) of God has made me; the breath (Ruach) of the Almighty gives me life.

This captures the essence of who we are in Christ and what we desire to do through the ministry of ROO-AKH. The Spirit of God is the life and breath of the believer. Without Holy Spirit, we will be ineffective for the Kingdom (John 15:8), powerless against the work of the enemy (Ephesians 6:11), and will gratify the desires of our flesh (Galatians 5:16).

God has breathed life into us and created us in His image to worship Him. Those of us who are in Christ are new creations and have been given the Spirit of Christ to live for Him and bring heaven to earth (Matthew 6:10). Holy Spirit is not scary or allusive, as some Christians may believe Him to be. He is God! Like the wind, He comes and goes as He pleases, and no one can control, shepherd, or contain Him. A life submitted to God is an individual who walks in step with the Spirit and manifests both the fruit and gifts of the Spirit. A Spirit-filled life will also result in proper worship of the Lord - Spirit and Truth (John 4:23).

ROO-AKH exists to see the Spirit of God fill, transform, and empower the lives of His people.

Our Story

We are first a son and a daughter of the Most High God.

Andrew is from Pennsylvania and Leah is originally from Florida. Both met and married while Andrew was traveling as a contracted musician and Leah was on staff as the worship director for the church where she grew up. Immediately after their wedding, the Young's heard the Lord call them back to the state of Pennsylvania where they served at Andrew's home church. They led worship there for almost two years and then felt God call them into full-time ministry.

They both served on staff at a church in NY for almost a year and then at a church in PA for four years. While on staff, they grew the worship team from 15 to 50 volunteers, personally invested in the spiritual and practical development of 12 worship leaders, wrote their own worship curriculum, and experienced powerful moves of God! It was shortly after calling them out of full-time church ministry that the Lord birthed ROO-AKH.

This journey is both exciting and scary as they are fully reliant on God to provide for their family financially, lead them into places where their gifts will be expanded and used to minister to others. They long to bring healing, deliverance, renewal, and revival in worship music and beyond because they believe that God is both willing and able.
